Letting instructors roster themselves
This starts switched off, and off means exactly what it has always meant: the rota is yours, and nobody else can touch it. If that is what you want, there is nothing to do.
At the top of the Rota page, Needs somebody lists every session short of instructors — counted by the ratio and by any never fewer than you have set, so it agrees with the flags on the schedule. Everybody can see that list, whether or not they can act on it; knowing what is short is how somebody knows to go and ask.
Underneath it, if you can administer the site, is the setting. Three choices:
- Only the warden — the default. Nobody puts themselves on anything.
- Ticketed staff, or alongside somebody ticketed — the one most campsites will want. Somebody can take a session they hold the ticket for. They can also join one where a ticketed person is already on, which is how you get a second pair of hands without that person needing the qualification themselves — and it is what makes a never fewer than two rule fillable at all.
- Anybody on the staff list — no ticket check on the way in. Missing and lapsed tickets are still flagged on the schedule exactly as they always are.
None of it changes what you can do. Whoever runs the rota can still put anybody on anything, ticket or no ticket, exactly as before. The restriction only ever applies to somebody rostering themselves, which is a different act — there is nobody else looking at it.
Two things are refused whatever the setting: somebody being in two places at once, and somebody putting themselves on a day they are already down as away. The second is a flag when you do it and a refusal when they do it to themselves, for the same reason — they have almost certainly misread the date, and nobody else is checking.
People can take themselves off, right up to the day, including off something you put them on. That is deliberate. Refusing does not keep them on the session, it just stops the rota knowing they are not coming — and the moment they drop out the session is back in Needs somebody where you will see it.
