Reminding people to pay

On the Owed page you can write a reminder for an invoice that has gone past its due date. It goes out in your name, in your words.

Writing the words is the switch. There is no separate on button, because a button and a piece of text can disagree and then either an empty email goes out or a written one doesn’t. Leave it blank and nothing is ever sent — which is how every campsite starts.

It goes once per invoice, and never twice. A second automatic email isn’t a reminder, it’s chasing, and a group that books with you every summer is worth more than one invoice. After the first one it’s a phone call. You choose how long to wait; a week after the due date is the default, because somebody three days late is usually somebody who hasn’t opened the post.

We add the facts underneath your paragraph — what it’s for, how much is left, when it was due, and which booking — so you don’t have to write any of that. If you take online payments it carries a Pay button too, which does far more than asking does.

Nothing is sent for an invoice you haven’t marked as sent, one you withdrew, one already paid, a booking that’s only an enquiry, or a customer with no email address. The panel tells you how many are waiting before you turn it on.
