Your page on your own domain

Your page normally lives at campsitemanager.toolsforscouting.com/sites/your-campsite. If your campsite has its own domain, you can show the page there instead: on Your page, under Use your own domain, type the address you’d like and choose Use this address.

Pick a new part of your domain. If your website is yourcampsite.org.uk, use something like book.yourcampsite.org.uk or stay.yourcampsite.org.uk. Your website carries on exactly as it is, and you can link to your page from it. Using yourcampsite.org.uk itself would replace your website with the page, so only do that if you don’t have one.

Then add one record. We show you a record to add where your domain is managed. That’s usually the company you bought it from (123 Reg, GoDaddy, Names.co.uk, Krystal and so on), or whoever looks after your website. Look for DNS, DNS records or Manage DNS, add a new record, and copy across the type, name and value exactly. A few providers want the whole address in the name box (book.yourcampsite.org.uk) rather than just book; if one doesn’t work, try the other. Occasionally we’ll ask for a second, TXT, record as well, to show the domain is yours.

We keep checking. Changes usually reach us within a few minutes, but can take a few hours. Your page checks every 30 seconds while it’s open, there’s a Check again button, and we check once a day as well, so you can close it and come back. When it says Working, your page is at your address, with a padlock: we set up the security certificate for you.

What changes. Your page shows at your address, and search engines are told to use that one. Its Campsite Manager address keeps working, so links you’ve already shared don’t break, and the QR code on Your page switches to your address. Asking about dates, booking tickets and so on still happen on Campsite Manager’s own pages, under your campsite’s name and logo.

Changing or removing it. Choose Change it or Remove on Your page. Once it’s removed, you can delete the record you added. If your page is switched off, your address shows a short “not set up yet” note instead.
